Car Wash Chain Focuses on Data, Customer Experience with Thanx
Little Rock, AR – Zips Car Wash, (www.zipscarwash.com) known for their unlimited wash clubs and advances in industry technology, is taking their forward-thinking to a new level with a Rewards App. Partnering with San Francisco-based Thanx, Zips Car Wash has just launched an app-based customer engagement program for their loyal customers, which rolled out May 1 at over 40 stores and was available at an additional 25 stores on May 15. The new mobile app highlights Zips Car Wash’s commitment to its customers while allowing the growing company to better understand their customers’ behavior with data-driven insights. Additionally, Thanx offers a way for guests to leave direct feedback to Zips Car Wash.
“With our recent growth to 115 stores, we are very excited to offer a rewards-based app to our loyal customers to earn free washes, refer friends and make purchasing a car wash even quicker and easier,” said Zak Hemphill, Vice-President of Technology and Organizational Development at Zips Car Wash. “The app is geared toward both our Unlimited Wash Club members and cash-paying customers and offers benefits for both groups,” he added.
Existing Club Members can link their account to the app and receive rewards for paying on a monthly membership. Rewards include free washes to use on a second vehicle or give to a friend.
In addition to wanting more customer data, Zips Car Wash selected Thanx in part because of the ease of use for customers. Rather than go the traditional route with a punch card or additional hardware at the Point of Sale, Zips Car Wash was excited by Thanx’ ability to track customer spending and reward customers simply by allowing customers to pay as usual. Customers can now earn rewards on their smartphones automatically through the Thanx app each time they visit any Zips Car Wash location.
“We didn’t want to make customers enter in a phone number or scan a QR code — often times we have long lines and didn’t want to slow down any customers,” said Hemphill. “Our goal is to make sure that our customers feel appreciated and rewarded for their loyalty to our company, and we wanted to do that in a modern way,” he added.
New users receive a free car wash upon sign-up and another free wash with every $100 spent. Additionally, for every new customer that is referred by a friend and signs up with the app, both parties will receive a free wash. The free wash will appear in the app and once the customer chooses to redeem the wash, there is a 60- minute period to use it.
“Zips Car Wash is promoting the app in store and online. Once customers are enrolled, they don’t have to take any additional action to earn progress toward rewards. This is why the Thanx loyalty program keeps 90% of its customers engaged years after they join, while other loyalty programs have trouble retaining more than 40%,” says Zach Goldstein, CEO of Thanx.
